Well worth the money

» Reviewed on 2010-03-28

Bought this to set about trimming some fruit trees and was impressed enough to set about other bigger trees, a Maple in particular and it done the job with ease, would recommend the product, it certainly is well constructed though is light and easy to handle.

Did what was required.

I bought the cutter as I had a number of bushes / small trees to prune back in Jan / Feb. Ideally I would have liked a bit more on the telescopic, however the pruner was great, easy to operate and the cutting blade was spot on. Would recommend.

Almost wonderful

I have bought two of these pruners in the last six months and have had the same experience with each of them. I reckoned that for the price it must be worth buying since even if it was blunt after just one season's use, it would work out cheaper than hiring someone to prune all my fruit trees. In the event, that wasn't the problem. The cutter is wonderfully light and easy to manoeuvre; the blade is sharp and cuts even the meatiest and highest branch with ease, due to the ingenious pulley system and telescopic pole. What the pruner can't reach, the saw deals with very effectively. Lightness has its costs, however. The pulley mechanism is flimsy and the wheels and spindles on both my cutters flew apart after about ten hours' serious work. As I was working with the cutter fully extended at the time, I couldn't see where the bits flew off to and wasn't able to retrieve them. When the first pruner failed I informed the Amazon marketplace supplier who promptly gave me a full refund which is why I bought the second. I have written to Fiskars who now manufacture the pruner to see if they can send me replacement wheels and spindles since it seems silly to replace another pruner for the sake of bits which can't cost more than 50 pence. It's surely not beyond the wit of the designer to make this part of an otherwise excellent tool much more robust.

Extremely useful garden tool

I wish I'd discovered this a long time ago. It allowed me to cut through thick branches which were previously out of reach even with a ladder, and the cutting action was extremely smooth and effortless. The only negative comment is that the blade on the saw attachment is too flimsy to be of any real use, but the pruner alone is well worth the money.
